In House Construction Training Courses

Construction Study Centre are experts at delivering training which is just one of the reasons why some of the UK’s top performing construction and property related companies come to us to provide their in-house training as well as attending our public courses.

Key benefits of In-House Training:

In-house training saves your colleagues time and saves your business money because there are no travel or accommodation costs. Our professional speakers come to you.

You also benefit from a course that is tailored to the specific needs of your business so you and your colleagues do not have to waste your time on specific points that are not relevant to your needs.

Our speakers are experts in their field which enables them to deliver a learning experience which combines both knowledge and know how in order to add real value to you and your business. They combine both excellent technical knowledge and practical experience of the subject matter they cover. This means that they understand the challenges faced by your teams and can speak to them in a manner that they can appreciate.

So what do we offer?

In house training is run at a time and a location to suit you. Ideally we would look to work with groups of around 10-15 delegates at a time to ensure the best learning opportunity from the course content and the related discussions.

We refer to these seminars as 'In-house' because this type of training is usually requested by organisations for their internal staff, to take place at one of their offices, but we'll happily provide it at an external venue instead if desired. Many of our customers also use this as a useful networking and partnering tool, sharing the resources of the course with close working contractors.

We offer all of our established public courses together with variants upon these. We frequently create new courses to our clients' specifications. Some of our more popular programmes include:

  • Construction Contracts such as NEC, JCT, PPC 2000, ICE
  • Construction Health & Safety Legislation including CDM
  • Building Regulations and sustainability
  • Project Management
  • Structural Surveys & Building Inspection
  • Commercial Awareness
  • Planning Law
  • Procurement
  • Communication & Negotiation Skills
  • Adjudication
  • Dispute Avoidance

Off the shelf courses

Construction Study Centre regular public courses can be run 'off the shelf' delivered at a time and place to suit you - a more cost effective way of training a larger group of delegates at a time, offering real savings and a great way of dealing with logistics or timing difficulties.

Customised or bespoke training

However, if you wish, you can customise any element of a course including the format, content and duration. For example we can tailor the delivery style to emphasise those components of a course that best meet the needs of your organisation. Alternatively, we can provide bespoke content, whether in the form of new modules or case studies or even an entire course developed to your specification. Whenever changes are made to any of our courses we will ensure that the tutor speaks to you well in advance of the programme to ensure that all your requirements are understood and agreed with you.

How does it work?

  • We would match you with a speaker who has the necessary background and expertise to present your course.
  • The course would then be prepared in close consultation with you to ensure that all aspects of the subject are covered during the course in a way that suits your organisation, and to develop a programme that matches your individual needs.
  • All of our speakers for the seminars will combine both excellent technical knowledge and practical experience of the subject matter. This means that they understand the challenges faced by your teams and can speak to them in a manner that they can appreciate.
  • Where appropriate, we will prepare and provide questions and worked answers set in a practical and real life context for maximum effect.
  • We encourage questions and comments from the delegates and are happy to arrange short tutorials or practical exercises during the day for small groups of delegates.

Building Regs to get red tape challenge

13/01/2012 10:46:16
Statutory construction regulations, including the Building Regulations, are to be made open to public scrutiny this month. They have just been released on the government's Red Tape Challenge website (www.redtapechallenge.cabinetoffice.gov.uk ). This is despite the fact that some parts of the Buildings Regs will be out for consultation in 2012.

The objective of this challenge is to reduce red tape to increase business efficiency, without compromising on safety. Housing, Construction and Planning is the latest sector featured on the website, allowing comment on regulations, from those it affects.

At the end of the consultation period, all comments will be forwarded to a "Star Chamber" chaired by Oliver Letwin, Minister of State for the Cabinet Office, where he and his team will decide upon which regulations need strengthening, and which should be abolished.

The common thought is that this will not have much effect on the existing regulations in the short term. The industry has threatened to radically change Building Regulations over the years but as yet we have only seen increased regulation, not de-regulation. Proposed revisions to the Building Regulations are expected in draft form early this year, to be implemented next year, in 2013.

Ensure your team is up to date with the Building Regulations, changes and proposals, with our one day course 'Keeping up to speed with the latest Building & Fire Regulations'.
