Peter has recently joined Alway Associates to establish and manage the North West Office based in Warrington. He is responsible for the development of the business in the North West as well as providing Alway’s range of services to our clients in the North of England. Peter will focus on the utilising his project recovery experience, dispute avoidance and management skills amd will also provide commercial and contractual advice to clients based in the North. Peter will also be presenting training and seminars on a wide range of topics.

Peter is a Quantity Surveyor and Commercial Manager with more than 30 years experience in the construction industry gained initially whilst working in senior commercial management roles with national and international contracting organisations. For the past 15 years Peter has worked at Director level in several consulting organisations specialising in providing commercial and contractual advice to clients, in so doing Peter combines his technical and practical knowledge with his extensive experience of construction law.

Peter has extensive experience and knowledge of the building, civil engineering, rail and process engineering sectors and has worked and advised on a variety of forms of contract including JCT, ICE, IChemE, MF/1 and NEC. He also assists clients in drafting bespoke amendments to contracts and in drafting entire bespoke contracts.

Prior to joining Alway Associates Peter has assisted a number of international clients in the tender and negotiation of several complex process projects in the Middle East and Europe. Peter remains actively involved in advising international clients on procurement strategy including advice on appropriate contract arrangements.

Relevant Experience
Richard became a member of the Association for Project Safety (formerly the Association of Planning Supervisors) in 1995 and acted as planning supervisor on a wide range of new build and refurbishment projects. In April 2007 he completed the APS examination and was adjudged to be appropriately qualified to act as a CDM Co-ordinator. Since then he has provided this role on numerous public and privately financed projects for the healthcare, education and utility sectors ranging in value from a few thousand pounds to £30m. He is also a member of a NHS Trust’s Health and Safety Steering Group providing training, advice on compliance with the CDM Regulations, drafting Site Rules for Contractors and Project Management Guidelines and advising on competency of designers and contractors. He is on the panel of speakers for CDM Courses run by the Construction Study Centre.

Richard has considerable experience of managing and controlling costs on a wide variety of construction projects and was elected a Fellow of the RICS in 1996. In addition, he is a Chartered Project Management Surveyor and has been responsible for successfully managing a number of schemes, particularly in the healthcare sector, including a Healthy Living Centre in Portsmouth, Learning Disabilities Bungalows in Sarisbury and major new extensions to the Oncology Centre and Cardiac Department at Southampton General Hospital. He has a firm commitment to Client satisfaction with particular emphasis on quality, timely completion and delivering schemes within budget.

Profile
Richard has in excess of ten years experience working for both medium and national construction companies in the fields of both quantity surveying and construction management, holding positions of Chief Surveyor and Construction Manager. Projects managed by Richard range from small refurbishment of tenanted properties to large new build projects, on various standard and bespoke building and civil engineering forms of contract.

Since joining Alway Associates, Richard has been involved extensively in the investigation, management and successful resolution of contractual and commercial disputes in major construction, rail and civil engineering projects. Such experience has encompassed various forms of dispute resolution including Arbitration, Adjudication and ADR techniques, having acted as lead representative and as Expert Witness on matters of quantum, programming and planning.

In addition to being Director with overall responsibility for Alway Associates' London and Cardiff offices he also undertakes the drafting of pleadings and provides legal advice, drafts and reviews contracts, sub-contracts, bonds, guarantees and collateral warranties as well as advocating in Arbitration and Adjudication.

Richard has presented seminars throughout the UK on a range of subjects related to law and commercial and contractual disputes.
